Kawa Nazemi is head of the group Semantics Visualization. His group develops user-centered and intelligent visualization solutions.
Kawa is author of more than 50 publications in journals, books, and conference proceedings. He is member of program committees for various conferences and acts as reviewer in several conferences and workshops. His research interests include user-centered information visualization based on semantics and visual analytics. He holds a PhD (“Adaptive Semantics Visualization”) in Computer Science from the Technische Universität Darmstadt and a Diploma in Media and Computer Science from the University of Applied Sciences Giessen-Friedberg. In 2006 he started to work as researcher at the Fraunhofer IGD focusing on „visual learning“. In 2007 he undertook the leadership and management of the THESEUS Core-Technology-Project “Innovative User Interfaces and Visualizations”, where he established a new research group focusing on Semantics Visualization and developing the SemaVis (link is external) technology.
His focus of research is among others on:

- Semantics Visualization
- Information visualization
- Visual Analytics
Kawa was and is involved in acquisition, conducting, and leading various European and national research projects, and a variety of industrial contract research projects.
